A Heap of Broken Images
This exhibition was Beal’s first at The Fine Art Society in London. Inspired by T.S. Eliot’s epic poem The Waste Land, Beal took inspiration from specific scenes and characters in the text but his response was far from literal, with the exhibition typifying the ambiguous, abstract dreamscape style of portraiture that became hallmarks of Beal’s short but explosive career.
