Saint Mondays and thereby hangs a tale
This exhibition was the culmination of Beal’s year long residency that followed his graduation from the Wimbledon College of Art in 2012. As a recipient of the biennial Jonathan Vickers Fine Art Award, he undertook extensive research of the cultural history and present day life of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site and surrounding Derbyshire area in the United Kingdom.
Robert Clark wrote that “Beal rescues such intriguing yet largely forgotten figures and affords them, through the manner of his painted portraits, a sense of worthy historical grandeur.”
